This book provides a rare in-depth look into the transformation of China from a poor communist nation in the late 70’s to the global economical power of today. Deng Xiaoping’s “Opening Up" policy in 1978 was pivotal in changing people’s mind and behavior that eventually unleashed the trememdous energy in the Chinese society. This change is effectively illustrated through the microscopic aggregation of individual actions and emotions of many ordinary people depicted in this story. Along the way, we learn how a Chinese businessman really thinks, and understand the unique cultural and personal feelings behind his actions. The English translation has a genuine and unique style and is easy to read. I enjoyed this highly informative and entertaining book. Every person who is doing business with China can benefit from reading it.
